1. Ayat al-Kursi — The Greatest Verse of Protection
Ayat al-Kursi (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255) is the single most powerful verse in the Quran for divine protection.
Transliteration:
Allāhu lā ilāha illā huwal-ḥayyul-qayyūm, lā ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa lā nawm, lahu mā fis-samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍ, man dhallathī yashfa'u ʿindahu illā bi'idhnih, yaʿlamu mā bayna aydīhim wa mā khalfahum, wa lā yuḥīṭūna bishay'in min ʿilmihi illā bimā shā', wasiʿa kursiyyuhus-samāwāti wal-arḍ, wa lā ya'ūduhu ḥifẓuhumā, wa huwal-ʿaliyyul-ʿaẓīm
Translation:
"Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great."

2. Last Two Verses of Surah Al-Baqarah (2:285–286)
Transliteration:
Āmanar-rasūlu bimā unzila ilayhi min rabbihi wal-mu'minūn, kullun āmana billāhi wa malā'ikatihi wa kutubihi wa rusulihi, lā nufarriqu bayna aḥadin min rusulihi, wa qālū samiʿnā wa aṭaʿnā, ghufrānaka rabbanā wa ilayka al-maṣīr. Lā yukalliful-lāhu nafsan illā wusʿahā, lahā mā kasabat wa ʿalayhā mak-tasabat, rabbanā lā tu'ākhidhnā in nasīnā aw akhṭa'nā, rabbanā wa lā taḥmil ʿalaynā iṣran kamā ḥamaltahu ʿalal-ladhīna min qablinā, rabbanā wa lā tuḥammilnā mā lā ṭāqata lanā bih, wa'fu ʿannā waghfir lanā warḥamnā, anta mawlānā fanṣurnā ʿalal-qawmil-kāfirīn
Translation:
"The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and so have the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, saying: 'We make no distinction between any of His messengers.' And they say: 'We hear and we obey. Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the final destination.' Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear. It will have the consequence of what good it has gained, and it will bear the consequence of what evil it has earned. 'Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.'"

Allahumma bika asbahna, wa bika amsayna, wa bika nahya, wa bika namootu, wa ilaykan-nushoor
O Allah, by Your leave we have reached the morning and by Your leave we have reached the evening, by Your leave we live and die, and unto You is our resurrection.
At-Tirmidhi 5:466

Virtues and Rewards
On Ayat al-Kursi: The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi after every obligatory prayer, nothing prevents him from entering Paradise except death." (Narrated by al-Nasa'i in al-Sunan al-Kubra, graded sahih by Ibn Hibban and al-Albani)
On the last two verses of Al-Baqarah: The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him." (Bukhari 4008) Ibn al-Qayyim explained this means they suffice him from all harm through the night and earn him reward.
On the morning/evening dua: The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever says 'Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-sami'ul-alim' three times in the morning and three times in the evening — nothing will harm him." (Abu Dawud 5088, Tirmidhi 3388 — sahih). Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man was afflicted with a calamity and when he learned this dua, he was protected.
On the Mu'awwidhatayn: The Prophet ﷺ said: "No person has ever sought protection with anything like the Mu'awwidhatayn." (Abu Dawud 1463, graded sahih). They cover protection from created things, the darkness, black magic, the evil eye, and the whisperings of Shaytan.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best dua for protection in Islam?
Ayat al-Kursi (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255) is widely regarded as the greatest verse for protection. The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever recites it after each prayer, only death prevents him from entering Paradise. Reciting it before sleep also ensures that no devil will come near you until morning (Bukhari 2311).
Which dua protects you from all harm morning and evening?
The dua 'Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-sami'ul-alim' — whoever says it three times in the morning and three times in the evening, nothing will harm him that day or night (Abu Dawud 5088, Tirmidhi 3388 — sahih).
What are the Mu'awwidhatayn?
The Mu'awwidhatayn are Surah Al-Falaq (Chapter 113) and Surah An-Nas (Chapter 114). The Prophet ﷺ used to recite them every morning, every evening, and before sleeping, blowing into his cupped hands and wiping over his body (Bukhari 5017). They are among the most powerful verses for seeking Allah's protection.
Do the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah protect you at night?
Yes. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him.' (Bukhari 4008) Scholars explain 'suffice him' to mean they protect him and earn him reward through the night.
Can I recite these duas for protection on behalf of others?
Yes. You can make dua for the protection of your family, children, and loved ones. The Prophet ﷺ used to seek protection for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn, saying: 'I seek protection for you both in the perfect words of Allah from every devil, vermin, and every evil eye.' (Bukhari 3371)
