Success in Islam has two dimensions: success in this life (dunya) and success in the hereafter (akhirah). These duas cover both.
The Prophet's Dua for Success and Sufficiency
Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى
Transliteration:
Allāhumma innī asʾaluka al-hudā wat-tuqā wal-ʿafāfa wal-ghinā
Translation:
"O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and sufficiency."
Source: Narrated by Muslim, 2721
This is one of the Prophet's ﷺ most beloved duas. Huda (guidance) and tuqa (God-consciousness) are the foundations of all success. Afafa (chastity and keeping away from what is forbidden) and ghina (contentment and sufficiency) are the protection from the two greatest destroyers of success: sin and greed.
The Quranic Dua for Success in Both Worlds
Arabic:
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Transliteration:
Rabbanā ātinā fid-dunyā ḥasanatan wa fil-ākhirati ḥasanatan wa qinā ʿadhāban-nār
Translation:
"Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire."
Source: Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:201
The Prophet ﷺ loved this dua so much that he often made it the focus of his personal supplications. (Narrated by Bukhari, 4522). It is the most comprehensive success dua in the Quran — it asks for all good in both worlds in one breath.

Dua for Success in a Task or Decision (Istikhara)
When facing an important decision — a job, a marriage, a business — make two rak'ahs of voluntary prayer and then recite the Dua al-Istikhara:
Transliteration:
Allāhumma innī astakhīruka biʿilmika wa astaqdiruka biqudratika wa asʾaluka min faḍlikal-ʿaẓīm, fa-innaka taqdiru wa lā aqdiru, wa taʿlamu wa lā aʿlamu, wa anta ʿallāmul-ghuyūb
Translation:
"O Allah, I seek Your guidance through Your knowledge, I seek Your power through Your ability, and I ask of Your great bounty. For You have power and I do not, You know and I do not, and You are the Knower of the unseen."
Source: Narrated by Bukhari, 1166 — full dua includes asking Allah to make the matter easy if it is good, and to turn you away from it if it is bad.

Virtues and Rewards
The concept of success (falah) in Islam is foundational — the adhan itself calls: Hayya 'alal-falah — "Come to success." True success is not just wealth or achievement but nearness to Allah ﷻ.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "The most beloved actions to Allah are the most consistent ones, even if they are small." (Narrated by Bukhari, 6465). Consistency in reciting these duas — even once a day — is more valuable than reciting them intensely for a week then stopping.
Allah ﷻ says:
Arabic:
وَمَن يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُ مَخْرَجًا وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ
Transliteration:
Wa man yattaqillāha yajʿal lahū makhrajan wa yarzuqhu min ḥaythu lā yaḥtasib
Translation:
"And whoever fears Allah — He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect." (Surah At-Talaq, 65:2-3)
Taqwa (God-consciousness) — which you are asking for in the Prophet's dua — is itself the greatest secret of success in this life.
